McAllen, TX –The 1st Annual Prickly Pear Social sponsored by Texas Regional Bank and Art by Dalice will take place on Saturday, October 20th, 2018, at Quinta Mazatlán from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in the lush and beautiful city of McAllen Texas. The Social celebrates all the edible wonders of the Rio Grande Valley while showcasing the many products and health benefits of the prickly pear cactus. Along with the Social activities, Quinta Mazatlán will be showcasing local foods and retail merchants will have special sales and prickly pear items available!
This year’s event will feature prickly pear inspired cooking demonstrations. Guests should meet in the Grand Hall for Benito & Toni Trevino’s discussion, “Historical Uses of the Prickly Pear Cactus”. Learn about the history behind this edible wonder and taste their cilantro pesto, nopal pizza. For all those salad lovers, Jaclyn Cappadona from the Cappadona Ranch will teach guests how to make their infamous Nopal Salad.
Following the cooking demonstrations, head over to the Cactus Club and watch bartenders provide a unique mixology of beverages featuring the gorgeous prickly pear tunas. The beautiful hue of magenta will encompass all prickly pear margaritas and cactus coladas. Guests will have an opportunity to taste the simplicity, natural and clean prickly pear syrup in every drink! Sip on these one of a kind drinks while watching local live musicians and the Fire and Light Show.
The Cactus Art Gallery will be featuring local artists from Hinovations Art Gallery. Raquel Hinojosa, Lupe Hernandez and Celerino Castillo III will have their beautiful, one of a kind pieces of art for sale! While enjoying your one-of-a-kind beverages you’ll have the opportunity to take a painting lesson using paint derived from prickly pear cactus fruits! These beautiful pigments will allow you to create your own work of art to take home and enjoy.
This all-inclusive event will be a fun and entertaining celebration of a South Texas icon! Nature and art lovers of all kinds will enjoy cactus inspired art, prickly pear infused cocktails, sip and painting sessions, cooking demos, local vendors, tapas cuisine, live music, a native plant sale, and more!
