This amount represents sales tax activity in Pharr for the month of August 2018, and reflects a significant increase of 13.89% in sales tax activity as compared to the same reporting period last year. The City of Pharr is also ranked first among Rio Grande Valley cities in sales tax collections year-to-date.
“Our city continues to expand in options for citizens and visitors to enjoy entertainment, retail, dining, and other activities that contribute significantly to the positive growth and development of Pharr,” said Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez, M.D.
“Our economic development engine is booming under the leadership of our City Commission, administration, and staff, and as we continue to focus on attracting and retaining businesses in Pharr, our community will continue to reap the benefits of the increasing economic impact,” he continued.
With the city’s newest entertainment venue Topgolf opening this month, Mayor Hernandez anticipates Pharr’s sales tax activity to increase, adding, “As leaders, we make business decisions in the best interest of our community, and we do our due diligence to invest in projects that will provide a significant return on investment, such as jobs, sales tax collections, and enhanced quality of life for our citizens and families.”
